Introduction

Oregon's Social Work Reinvestment Initiative (SWRI)

NASW Oregon Chapter is pleased to carry out the national Social Work Reinvestment Initiative (SWRI) at the state level, an initiative designed to unify and advance the social work profession. This Initiative builds on the National Social Work Public Education Campaign and addresses key goals identified by the 2005 Social Work Congress, as well as recent findings by the NASW Workforce Center.

The goal of SWRI is to reactivate stakeholder investment in professional social work to enhance societal well-being.  Oregon's Social Work Reinvestment Initiative plan contains long-term reinvestment goals in the following five areas: Legislative and Political Advocacy, Public Education, Workforce Development, Research, and Stakeholder Engagement.

The preliminary draft of Oregon's SWRI Plan is based on the Chapter’s Strategic Plan and recommendations from the SWRI Summit, hosted by NASW Oregon Chapter in November 2007.  Oregon has convened a collaborative SWRI Taskforce that will meet in January 2008 to identify strategies and short-term action steps to support the long-term SWRI goals.
